it's also interesting to re-enter the digital world with heightened awareness and consciousness. it comes with a whole other set of challenges as compared to complete and total disconnection. with disconnecting comes this validation that i can let go of everything. when reconnecting and moving back to the western world, i struggled to find a new way of living. how to live in the 'old world' with my new state of being. keeping journal entries and meditating daily has kept me grounded. i ask the question 'when did i fall today?' but the ability to further deconstruct my limited beliefs and past conditioning has proven to be a transformational experience. we shed one way, but may accumulate the opposite direction. the saying goes, you can reject society by going against the norm, but your actions are still defined by the norm. great read! thanks for sharing!
you bring up a very important point trina! the rebound effect does plays a big part in the whole disconnecting from the digital world, you need to be careful what you "accumulate in the opposite direction" - for me it was alcohol, which is just as bad or worse than the whole scrolling habit. you can also feel alien to yourself with this heightened awareness you speak of, it is definitely not all sunshine and butterflies, you make a very valid point. the more you reject everything, the more self-doubt? what do you think? that's why you will always be moulded "by the norm"?
This is what I need to do. But it is like a comforting blanket, but yet so harmful at times. The time I spend scrolling through instagram has become unhealthy I dare to admit. And yes, we are being fed so many messages that you can barely think for yourself anymore. I’d like to let all that go. 😊 Thanks for sharing this.
Hey Lindsey! Well, awareness is the first step. So you are already walking the path! If you ever feel like talking through it, I’ve been having casual 1:1 chats with people who are trying to break free or just want a clearer relationship with their digital habits. No pressure, no preaching, just real conversation and support. Let me know if you are interested. :)
In my opinion, socials addiction is the new universal recurrent deny like global warmth. The subject will - through some médias - go back again on the table, indefinitely, and only few will get the subject and take action for themselves
That's a very good comparison Célia! Just like denying climate change, we fail to understand that our current addiction to oil or pollutants and social media really harms us as a whole in our current society. The harm is indeed different, but not "seeing" these truths will negatively affect humanity. Thanks for sharing your thoughts :)
I love this substack so much and I also want chickens!!
ohhhh can't wait to some chickens too!! and a fully off-grid, self sufficient lifestyle... it's the dream!!
